Clad rack and high bay installation

Racking that holds the roof up. Rack-supported buildings and high bay structures to 35 metres, craned, surveyed and bolted by crews who do this for a living.

The racking is the building

In a clad rack warehouse there is no steel frame. The racking carries the roof, the wall cladding, the wind load and the snow load, as well as the pallets. It is designed as a structure and it has to be installed as one: set out from a surveyed datum, built in a sequence that keeps it stable as it rises, bolted and braced to the engineer's drawings, verified before the cladders arrive.

We have installed clad rack and high bay systems in the UK and on the continent, working under the racking manufacturer and alongside the civils, cladding and automation contractors. We know where our tolerances meet theirs.

What that involves

  • Crane lift plans and appointed-person cover for lifted assemblies
  • Ground-assembled frames lifted in, or stick-built where the design calls for it
  • Working at height with MEWPs, booms and rope-access trained installers
  • Datum survey and verification records at each stage, not just at the end
  • Coordination with roofing, cladding, sprinkler and automation trades

High bay inside an existing building

Where the building already exists, high bay racking goes up inside it, often to within a metre of the roof. Access is tighter, lifting is more constrained and the floor is rarely as flat as the drawing assumed. We survey first, shim and grout where the design allows, and plan the build around the real building, not the ideal one.

Insured and equipped for it

Our insurance carries a 35-metre height limit written in, which is not the default. Employers' liability £10m, public liability £5m, contractors' all risks. Crews hold advanced industrial climbing, IPAF and telehandler certificates, with safety-critical medicals for everyone who goes up.
